Author’s perspective – Why did I write the book?

I will get to the WHY.. first here’s a quick question.. have you ever wondered how your parents met? Or have you ever wondered what their relationship must have been like before you and your siblings (if you have any) were on the picture?

Now let’s get to my answer while you think about that. When I started writing I didn’t know I was writing a book, it was back in 2022 and I had this idea of writing something about the lives of my parents, and like any other time when I’d feel the urge to write I did what I had always done. I grabbed a 72 page book and pen and I started writing from when and how they met, it must have been about +- 10 pages later when I thought, how about I take this to the laptop, and then that led to the reason WHY I continued writing. I started looking foward to every next session I’d get to write, it felt like I was spending time with these characters at the exact timelines I wrote about.

I felt every word I typed and every scenario I wrote about put me exactly At that moment they lived and I’d feel what they must have felt,or at least close enough. I continued for some time, life got busy, I got more intentional about working on my healing and working on being the best version of myself so I put the writing aside a bit and left the “writing” at 25 000 words. At a few occasions I’d find myself thinking how the story would have continued, until I didn’t. When I finally thought I was ready to continue writing, the laptop had technical issues and that was the only place my work was saved so I moved on and thought, I’d fix it when I got a chance and take it from there.

Towards the end of 2025 I am now healed, a much better version of myself, I had worked on my limiting beliefs, rewired my subconscious mind and rebuilt my self esteem. I was at peace but still felt incomplete, I felt this sudden guilt everyday on my way to work that I probably wasn’t following my purpose, I couldn’t shake that feeling everyday for an entire month. I decided to fix the laptop and that led to the reason WHY I wanted to complete and publish the book. At that point I was now sure it was a book that I was writing.

As soon as I made that decision everything else fell into place, we had a four days revamp at work. I spent the first day sorting out personal interests, I spent 2 days reading the book and getting to remember where I left off so I would know how to proceed and I spent the 4th day resting and recharging. I completed the rest of the book in 5 sessions I wanted it to be 50 000 words, I managed 52 000. I would write after work, after my chores were complete I would sit down no matter how exhausted I was and I would write, as much or as little as I could. I ensured I made time through the busy season of December holidays, flooded with invitations to social gatherings, the overall atmosphere of joy and celebration simply meant I’d write,  skip a few days having a good time and write again. I tried to drag getting to the end because I knew it would break my heart, I finally got to the last chapter on the 22nd of December, I sobbed almost throughout the entire chapter, reality hit me that albeit unsure of some of the details that occurred during the book ( that I still needed to ask family about) the one thing I was a hundred percent certain about when I started writing was how it would end, but even if for a few hundred pages, it was such an honour to relive those moments even those I wasn’t even a thought in my parents minds yet when they occurred .. I healed through that book and my heart didnt just break for the sake of breaking so I would remain wounded, it broke open. I healed even more through my writing journeys and I am so excited to share this story with you. So December 23rd I requested a quote with one of the self publishing companies. I received information about what it would take to publish by December 24th and then waited for the new year before I could start the process.

I took the decision to publish because I wanted to change how Natasha and Edmund were defined. You could have asked anyone who knew me what they knew about my parents and you’d receive a two words answer without hesitation or having a 2nd thought. In this book I wanted to share that before anything else happened they lived life to the fullest, they had beautiful meaningful relationships and most importantly they loved unconditionally and till their eternity as they promised each other.
